Is your business website invisible? If you’re not attracting the leads you want, a few changes can make the difference between seeing results and just paying the domain and hosting fees year after year.
1. Grab Attention
Studies show you have 20 seconds to grab your visitor’s attention. Make the
most of it by making it clear where they are and how you can help them.
Your logo in the upper left corner and a clear, benefit focused headline will tell your visitors where they are and “what’s in it for them” to stick around.
2. Use Simple Navigation
Like you, your visitors are busy. Help them find what they’re looking for quickly.
It’s standard practice to put the navigation bar at the top or on the left. So do that. Don’t put it at the bottom of the page where it can be missed. Use the right hand side for special offers or the opt in box for your newsletter.
Keep the names of your buttons clear. Call them Home, About Us, Contact Us, etc. Don’t make up words or try to be clever. Remember, people are in a hurry to find what they need and move on. Confused visitors leave without buying so help them find what they need.
Here’s an example, if you’re selling pet products and your prospect is looking for dog collars, offer a navigational button that says “dog collars”. It seems simple but you’d be surprised where the dog collars can be filed on some websites.
Don’t worry, the “big guys” make mistakes too.
The tech site www.cmswire.com gave an example from Amazon. They searched the site for “acoustic bass guitars” but didn’t see a button labeled for them. They didn’t find them under “guitars” either.
Where would an acoustic bass guitar live if not under “guitar” or the specific tab, “acoustic bass guitar”?
How about “electronics”? Luckily for Amazon, they have a robust search function to make it easy to find what you’re looking for. However, studies show 70% of visitors click a clearly defined https://jenphillipsapril.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=635link. Make sure yours are easy to spot.
3– Content is the Key to Sales — whether you convert leads or lose them.
On the web, there are two steps to this:
1—Your content should speak to your audience and show you as the solution to their problem.
2—You need to rank high in search so your prospects can find you. In other words, it needs to be well-optimized for search.
Here’s an example of how SEO can help you bring in more money. A recent client of mine was not receiving the number of leads they desired. After I did keyword research and rewrote their home page using SEO principles, they experienced a 50% increase in business within a few short weeks!
Another thing to consider with your website, can every page stand on its own?
Everyone won’t see your homepage. Each page of your site should have its own keywords and its own benefit focused headline and call to action. Google indexes webpages, not websites. So, if you have 50 pages on your site, that’s 50 chances you have to show up in search.
These are but 3 quick tips to a successful website. Have you made changes to your site and boosted your success? If so, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
