Hopefully, you’re not one of the millions of small business owners using “welcome” on your home page.
Why?
Because while “welcome” is a pleasant enough greeting it doesn’t tell your visitors how you can help them.
You need to spell out how you help.
The Importance of Headlines
Effective web pages have a benefit-focused headline.
Think about it. How busy are you? When you land on a site, how quickly do you sum it up and decide if it can provide the solution to your problem? How quickly do you hit the “back” button?
Studies say people decide within 3-20 seconds.
It’s so fast, you’re hardly even conscious of your decision to hit that “back” button.
When your visitors land on your webpage, it should grab their attention and explain exactly how you help.
As a web copywriter, I see hundreds of webpages that start with “welcome”. Usually that’s only the first of many other problems that keep the site from attracting large numbers of visitors and converting them to customers.
