A friend of mine told me a story about would- be Hollywood stars.
You know, the people who move to L.A. with big screen dreams. But until their big break comes, they have to pay the bills and most of them wait tables.
“The smart ones work at Starbucks.” He went on to say, “Because the Studio Executives stop in to pick up their lattes on their way to work. Working at Starbucks in Pasadena, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica and other areas put you in the neighborhoods where the execs live. They’ll stop by every morning.
It’s the best guaranteed way of getting in front of people who can give you your big break. The executives send out for lunch, their assistants get their afternoon pick-me-ups and at night they’re wining and dining clients and don’t want to be bothered.
But, if you work the morning shift at the Starbucks near their homes, they all stop in. Every Starbucks regular knows your drink will be waiting for you when you step in the door. The staff are like good bartenders. They know what you like and have it waiting for you when you come in.
What does this have to do with you and marketing your business you ask?
Good question.
Facebook is like that Starbucks. The customers are there, the decision makers are there and if you want to reach them, you need to be there too.
Yet it’s not enough to make a few posts. You have to have a plan, like those young hopefuls choosing to work at Starbucks instead of Spago.
